soak in ';greased lightning'; of some other brand of degreaserI bought an oil lamp that is over 100 years old and has some sticky dried oil in it. How do I clean it out?
Methyl hydrate (gas line antifreeze) bought at most hardware stores.
First if it is possible disassemble, the wash the parts with water and submerge with soapy water for at least 1 hr. if it didn't`t totally remove the oil try some ammonia diluted ( wear gloves) with a tooth brush to get into the inner spots. You have to dry it really good and then cover it with a metal protective liquid it will prevent corrosion.
Goo Gone, I got mine at the local grocery store.
Fizzing denture tablets
Try using diesel fuel...WD-40 might work also.
My mom had the same problem. Eventually, we used nail polish remover, but beware, wear gloves when doing this!
Be very careful to use a product that will not mar the finish in any way.A good gentle product is Goo Gone.Use it sparingly.Best to apply it on a cotton ball and rub gently until the sticky stuff is gone.Be patient, and keep the cotton ball wet with the Goo Gone.
You might try ';mineral spirits'; or ';paint thinner';. Let it set for a couple hours and see if it will clean it out. Wear rubber gloves and good air ventilation too.
