and will they sell it to a pregnant woman?
has anyone encountered this problem?!
thanks!(UK) I would like to buy some castor oil...?
hi you can buy castor oil from boots or a chemist but they wont sell it to a pregnant woman as they know what you want it for. i had castor oil with my second baby i had half a bottle sat on the loo all day and my waters broke that nite, but with my third i had a whole bottle sat on the loo again and he never came out he was a day late. i found the best way to take it was to mix with pure orange juice pop in the microwave for 15 seconds stir and drink its warm and not thick. good luck(UK) I would like to buy some castor oil...?
Holland and Barratts sell it.
What are you intending to use it for?
PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE CASTOR OIL - IT COULD BE DANGEROUS TO YOUR BABY.
The reasoning behind taking it is that it could give you diarrea, and when this happens your stomach could have contractions therefore starting off the real thing. But, the castor oil will also go through the cord to your baby, who could poo whilst inside you and then get quite a nasty infection. If this doesn't happen then you will spend your labour throwing up and with diarrea. Trust me, that is the last thing you want when in labour in front of your partner, midwife, and anyone else who happens to be in the room with you during your labour.
Don't even go there with trying to drink that hellish stuff to get you started!! I did that, it is disgusting, it's thick and makes you puke when you are trying to take it and to make matters worse, all it does is give you the runs and it doesn't make the baby come any sooner!!
They sell it at most health food stores in the United States (not sure about in the UK). It is sold over the counter and is a natural remedy for constipation, so I can't imagine that anyone would have a problem selling it to you. Be ready when you take it! Be near a bathroom and probably best to be at home for the following 24 hours. It did not work for me the first time I tried it, but tried again a week later and went into labor that evening.
Do no do it, the midwives know and it is not a good way to bring on labour, I know its frustrating but baby will come when its ready, when I was pregnant I went from 7.5 stone to 12 stone and it was all belly, i was so fed up and wanted to use castor oil but it can be very bad for baby and yourself as it gives you the squits!
I really wouldn't know where to get it in the UK, I'm in Canada and bought it at my grocery store, it was behind the counter at the pharmacist.
Honestly I took the maximum dose for an adult and all it did was make me feel Icky, didn't start labour. I wouldn't recommend it
you should be able to buy it at a health food shop like holland and barrats or you might get it at one of the bigger chemists like boots, they should sell you it but before you take it just consider the risks, it can cause severe dihorrea which can dehydrate you (not good) or it can cause your babys bowels to open which can cause the baby to become distressed leading to a possible c section. this happened to my mum with my sister and she was still born, luckily she was revived and she is a healthy 7year old now but it could have all gone terribly wrong. this obviously doesnt happen to everyone but just think about it before taking the castor oil
My wife was told by a friend of hers that if you drink it, it can induce labour, she somehow managed to down a small bottle of it, all it induced was really bad stomach aches and diarrhoea. Our daughter was born a week later; she has the most beautiful shiny hair though.
