i agree. we should use our own oil and gradually move toward alternative energy without buying oil from crazy people in the meantime.





rising demand is not the whole story: demand has not risen dramatically enough in the last decade to merit $127 a barrel, by itself.





every reasonable wants cleaner energy and we can do it - but its going to take time. in the meantime, we have oil and we need to suck it up and start using it. using other people's oil isnt saving the environment either - so what difference does it make (besides, of course, that the oil we're buying is from people who hate us)?

How stupid are we??? the dem's have a veto proof majority and yet they are still blaming bush for not stopping the war. they said when they took over that they would end the war in the first 100 days after they took office that was almost two years ago.

Sorry, to all the ';environmental nuts'; out there, but America has plenty of known energy reserves to become energy independent. However, due to a number of actions linked to the ability of special interests to sway, coerce, and lawsuit their way toward energy independence ';prevention,'; we are still hostages to OPEC and their minions. Here is a partial list of options, all blocked by those listed above, and the brain-dead masses who follow them:


1. Nuclear Power


2. New refineries (we're still waiting for a new one after 30 yrs)


3. Coal


4. Natural Gas


5. Crude Oil that is known to exist off the continental shelf (especially in the Gulf of Mexico %26amp; Alaska)





The ';price mechanism'; (the cost of energy) is a self-policing conservation mechanism; as a commodity's price increases, demand falls, and conservation rises.





Along with many other industries, the Free Market has not been able to act ';freely'; in the creation of energy and alternatives to oil. Through numerous laws and regulations, The US Federal Government has been allowed to create a right leaning-socialist system. that has never-the-less, created unbelievable wealth and an increase in living standards that The Founders could never have imagined. If only we could go back to the original idea of our government: ';the government that governs least, governs best.';
We don't have anything even remotely sufficent in reserves to drill. Even if we open the off shore to drilling, we would have to buy as much as half our oil from overseas in a matter of a couple of years.





We have to find another way. We need nuclear power plants, and we need electrical auto mobiles. If we don't get them in this insane congressional circumstance, we will get to be a very serious third world country.
we should consider doing it ourselves...it's our land anyway...it's not so difficult getting the oil out, as moving it and refining it...much of our domestic reserviours have refilled as the crude oil percolates back to the surface since the 70s, there's no legit reason why we're not utilizing our own supply, unless you're orchestrating an oligopoly for price gouging. I agree that we should begin ASAP to look for renewable energies, but we still have PLENTY of oil, this ';shortage'; is artificial.
Because we do not have enough oil reserves in the ground to supply our over-consumption of energy. The solution to dependence on foreign oil is a combination of conservation and alternative energy. More drilling at home will only slow down the rate of price increases. Since demand keeps rising, it won't be able to stop the price increases entirely.
Government forces (democrats) have a vested interest (voting base of environmentalist) in not allowing the tapping of our own resources, even though we have enough oil in the US to fill our needs, contrary to what some (liberals) might say. We can't drill one of the largest oil discoveries ever found (in alaska). And we don't drill off the oil rich coasts of Calif. and Florida. But China, thanks to cuba, will be drilling 25 miles off the coast of Florida. Government (democrats) now have pumped up global warming and ethanol (big corn) so much, they can't turn back and look like idiots. They rather cause food prices to rise and starve people in third world countries then use common sense and tap our own supplies.





To those saying we don't have enough oil, thats false. Add Nuclear plants into the equation, we have independence.





To those preaching for electric cars, electricity is created by fossil fuels. And there is an efficiency loss in between. You think electricity is a free natural resource?





To big corn democrats, stop starving the third world countries using an efficient food as an inefficient fuel and admit ethanol is not the answer.

it's true we most certainly do have enough oil to support ourselves. We don't have to stop buying all of our oil however. We get a majority of oil from canada. There is no reason to not continue getting our oil from our allies...all part of trade balance. But we do need to stop buying oil from the middle east and venezuala. Sell some of our oil to our allies that currently get oil from the middle east and venzuala and thusly stop funding terrorists and countries that hate us. The dems and tree huggers just don't get big pictures. Too busy worrying about false science, global warming ect. This is very simple. Democrats and environmentalists love trees not people. it is their stated goal to undermine and destroy America. Noam Chomsky, beloved leader of the left stated may 18th on NPR that America needs to be taken down a notch and that is what the left is trying to do. the latest tool is global warming. while India and China race ahead of America on the global stage, we have the left and the far left dragging this powerful nation down. Rome was not destroyed by an invading army or even by its generals. No Rome was destroyed by the flower growers, the artist.. the left. Rome was destroyed from the inside. We don't have enough oil to cover our needs. It's that simple. If we had to rely on our own oil (including unproven reserves not yet exploited), we wouldn't make it 3 years.





Not doable, but... we get most of our oil from Canada and Mexico. It is over half of our trade deficit. Oil production peaked in the US around 1973.

New oil discovery in the States with enough crude to last the US 60 years. Lots of crude in Canada, as well as oil sands. The NIMBY's and the tree-huggers will not let drilling at ANWAR proceed, nor allow any new refinerys. They want us reduced to the level of a third-world country. At least it would seem so, from their actions.
Between the USA , Canada and South America there is more Oil then in the Middle east, in fact the Middle East will run out in the next 10 to 15 years.
