Why do Americans accept the premise that the Saudis are untouchable because we 'need' to buy thier oil ?

It is not the general population that is of that belief. It is also not the intelligent and talented scientist who are more than capable of developing and alternative source of fuel. I doubt it is the engineers who have for years worked on developing vehicles that would run on alternative sources. (As I recall it was GM who scrapped an entire line that would run on electricity). Only people who stands to make major profit...and I do mean major profit for their investment in and association with ';oil producing'; ';oil consuming'; businesses would hold such ideas. Yes, for big profit, they might hold such ideas despite how it could totally bankrupt the rest of the country and cost countless innocent people to perish.Why do Americans accept the premise that the Saudis are untouchable because we 'need' to buy thier oil ?
