a head gasket, I hate to say this, but how long did they drive it while in this condition. sure you can put a head gasket on, but if the car was drove with water in the oil, I would hate to see what the main and rod bearings look like.
I would hate to see you buy this and do the head gasket just to find out a few weeks later you have no oil pressure at an idle and or you have rod noise suddenly appear.
Oh, One last thing, Its NEVER ';just'; a head gasket. something made that car overheat to the point of blowing that gasket. Head gaskets dont just go out.\
Either it had an antifreeze leak somewhere and kept running without coolant, a thermostat stuck closed and caused it to overheat, or the fans quit working due to a bad CTS or relay.
Something went bad to blow that head gasket.I wanna buy this 99 intrepid but it has water in the oil and needs a head gasket how much does that cost?
Make sure that it's the head gasket, and not a cracked head.
I would call several auto shops for prices, as prices will vary.I wanna buy this 99 intrepid but it has water in the oil and needs a head gasket how much does that cost?
Don't touch it.
Water in the oil is bad news.
Head gaskets are cheap, but the labor will hurt unless you know how to do it yourself.
do NOT go near this car.
About $400, but you might want to check other things (including how particular the mechanic is about returning the bolts to the same holes they came out of) but also failure of a head gasket is often cause by a cooling system that wasn't working correctly and the engine was subjected to many overheatings. This can create a lot more subtle problems than just the head gasket. It might be wise to look at a different car. Look for new water pump or other signs of overheating
you do it? 100 to 200 by the time you r dont frigging around....a mechanic....? 900 to 1500 by the time hes done friggin around...if the motor isnt shot....oh yhaaaa...why oh why
we have to get our head gasket replaced and we are getting it done by a friend for about $400. the mechanic said he could do it for $500-$600. but, after it's done our car should be going for a long while. so it's up to you if it's worth it
Why would you even consider buying this car in first place?
